The beginning

After the last summer holidays, my first holidays after the 1st year of studying at the Masaryk University in Brno where I met lots of new people who highly influenced my life and brought me lots of new ideas, I decided not to spend the whole holidays of this year at home, in Czech republic, just going for 2-3 weeks vacation spent either by walking in the mountains or lying on the beach. After the last year I've found so many possibilities how to spend summer holidays and primarily it was my friends who were my inspiration, secondarily my self-confidence in English which I finally started to use beyond the "borders" of school and I've started to lose my fear of speaking in the foreign language.

So, according to my friends' experiences from last summer, I was considering 2 possibilities: either to work abroad or to go for a cultural internship with AIESEC. Almost immediately I decided for the second option - an AIESEC internship - mainly due to the exam period which was expected to be pretty long because of the variety of subjects I chose and I was supposed to choose. And it turned out to be a right decision since my exam period extended unexpectedly, I had my last exam on Thursday, 26th of June! Even though the exam period started in the middle of May... Though, at the beginning of the exam period I registrated to the AIESEC system and during that time besides studying I also had to search for internship opportunities which may caused the prolongation of my exam period, on the other hand it brought me reasons and excuses why I can't study and the whole process itself (which contains searching for an internship, contacting internship managers and communicating with them on Skype) was a very interesting issue.

I didn't have any concrete plan where to go, what to do there and so on, I just wanted to go abroad to improve my language skills and try to be "alone" in a foreign place where nobody speaks my native language and I have to rely just on myself. So I was randomly searching through the AIESEC system, looking for something unusual and after lots of mails and 2 Skype interviews I was selected for an internship in MOLDOVA! I can't describe my feelings after I found out AIESEC Moldova decided to enable me to go for their internship. It has been one of my favourites, both the programme itself and the place. Well, the place... I've never been to Moldova and it's quite possible I wouldn't go there in the next few years if there wasn't this internship. That was also one of the factors why I decided to apply for the programme there. However, after I sent the first mail, I wrote "Chisinau" (the capital city of Moldova) to Google, just out of curiosity, just to find some pictures to see how it looks there. And, I must admit, after the first impression of the pictures I was a bit scared! I just saw a lot of blocks of flats, those which we also have in Czech republic but mostly in the suburbs, however, the pictures seemed like they have these buildings even in the city centre! After seeing this I was thinking "In case they'll choose me, do I really want to go there?", however, after a while I came to realize the architecture is not the thing why I wanna go there, and - a very important thing - I can't judge just by some pictures I've found in Google. Since I became aware of this I've been looking forward to going to Moldova more and more and actually I can't wait to be already there! Even though there's also a worry on the other hand... But this has been always here when going to a new place, that's something what belongs to the travelling, at least in my case.

Chisinau - the capital city of Moldova
Well, that's how it has begun... There's still one month ahead of me, however, it's high time to start with preparations! :-)
